Dinesh Kamath's column on film 'ABCD: Anybody Can Dance' that was published in Newsband

ABCD: Anybody Can Dance is an upcoming Bollywood dance film and the first of its kind in India to release in 3D. It is being directed by director and choreographer Remo D'Souza and produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur. It stars Prabhu Deva and Ganesh Acharya in key roles. The participants of Dance India Dance also essay central characters. The film is releasing in Tamil titled as Aadalam Boys Chinnatha Dance. The film will release worldwide on February 8, 2013.
The film narrates the story of Vishnu (Prabhudeva) who’s only passionate about dance.  He is thrown out of the swish dance academy because of his manipulative business partner.
Vishnu is heartbroken and decides to quit dancing and leave Mumbai once and for all.  But just a day before the dancer was about to leave, he saw a group of dancers preparing for the upcoming Ganpati Dance Battle.
Looking at their raw talent, Vishnu decides to train these dancers and make them the best.
This is India’s first dance film in 3D.
The film has Prabhu Deva, Ganesh Acharya, Kay Kay Menon, Terence Lewis, Lauren Gottlieb, Dharmesh Yelande, Noorin Sha, Punit Pathak, Prince Gupta, Mayuresh Wadkar, Vrushali Chavan, Kishore Aman and Salman Yusuff Khan playing important roles.
The film's music was done by the composer-duo Sachin-Jigar, with all lyrics written by Mayur Puri. Bezubaan was the first song to be released on the internet, followed by Psycho Re.
The film has songs like Shambhu Sutaya sung by Azaad Hussain Ansari, Vishal Dadlani, Bezubaan by Mohit Chauhan, Priya Panchal, rap by: Tanvi Shah, Deane Sequeira, Psycho Re by Mika Singh, Udit Narayan, Mann Basiyo Sanwariyo by Anuskha Manchanda, Chandu ki Girlfriend by Raman Mahadevan, Jigar Saraiya, Duhaai by Madhav Krishna, Sorry, Sorry by Jigar Saraiya, Kar Ja Re Ya Mar Ja Re by Suraj Jagan and Sadda Dil Vi Tu (Ga Ga Ga Ganpati) by Hard Kaur.
Shresht Poddar, of Score Magazine, gave the album 4 out of 5 stars saying, "Sachin-Jigar have delivered a multi-genre winning album. They have wonderfully demonstrated their versatility and deserve to be heard more. Despite having a couple of situational tracks, the album gets thumbs up from me because of its uniqueness. With these songs, Any Body Can Dance!". Goku! of IndiBeats! gave the album a rating of 4/5 commenting "ABCD is definitely out-of-the-box, crossing all expectations still delivering a package so brilliantly done!"
It is clear that Remo D'Souza has taken it upon himself to change the notion that some can’t dance with his latest offering - ABCD aka Anybody Can Dance. Remo D'Souza has effectively used the platform of Nach Baliye to promote his troupe as also his film as well, underlining with emphasis how synergies can be created between television and cinema by imaginatively using the platform of television as Remo D'Souza. Specialty of Remo D'Souza lies in the fact that he has not forgotten his roots, he is a small town boy from Jamnagar, who became a dance master just by watching the performance of Michael Jackson on the television screen. He belongs to the generation of the eighties when Michael Jackson had created a buzz around the world and had been a source of inspiration for scores of youngsters around the world.
ABCD's distinction lies in the fact that it is India's first 3D dance film and the cast and crew have been assembled primarily from the various dance shows that he judged after the success of his first directorial venture F.A.L.T.U. So we have the stars from the Dance India Dance show like Salman Yussuf Khan, Dharmesh Yelande, Punit Pathak and Vrushali Chauhan who form the core nucleus of ABCD.
Obviously no film which is based on modern dance can be completed in its star cast if it does not include the Indian Michael Jackson, Prabhu Deva! Indeed, Prabhu Deva forms an integral part of the ABCD and he also features along with Remo D'Souza in various dance shows as well.
Remo D'Souza being a man representing the aspiring middle class of the country, ABCD primarily deals with the fact that one should leave no stone unturned to live the dream which has been kindled in one's heart.
Remo D'Souza is one of those aspirational figures for the youth of the present generation, who has made his dream come true with his devotion and passion to his craft - dance, and is an icon worth emulating for the belief that he had in self and ABCD is the outcome of such a belief. After the release of the film Remo D'Souza desires to come out with a book on the modern dance form that has evolved in India off-late and it again would be a best seller. After all, this man has choreographed more than 1000 songs in Hindi cinema so far.
So do watch the film ABCD: Anybody Can Dance when it gets released on 8 February 2013.
