NIFT students not happy with the fee hike
By Dinesh Kamath
NAVI MUMBAI: Students of the National Institute of Fashion Technology at Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, were disturbed about the fact that their fees had been hiked. It seems that the college has increased its fee drastically, up to Rs 50,000, and they shall be increasing it by a minimum 10% every year, for all students, including existing students. When the ministry of Textiles stopped financing NIFT, the board then decided to break ties with the ministry and collect the required money from students.
The students of NIFT, Kharghar then decided to follow their counterparts at Gandhinagar in Gujarat, who too had staged a protest against the fee hike by up to 40 per cent. Here a student on protest said that they are uniting the students of all 15 centres of NIFT across the country to fight the hike. This fee hike would make it difficult for poor students to get admission in the college and it would also prove to be burden for those students who are currently studying in the college. The students of NIFT, Gandhi Nagar had gone to the extent of boycotting their classes and project works and gheraoing the car of the director to get the management change their decision. The police had to be called to control the students.
The students of NIFT, Kharghar felt similarly about the fee hike and were very much disturbed about it.
