Bijlani
shielded by a politician and top police officials?
By Dinesh Kamath
NAVI MUMBAI: Sandeep alias Sunny Lahoria, son of Sunil Lahoria who
was murdered, has made an accusation that his father’s murderers are being
shielded by a politician and four IPS officers. Sunny’s accusation is that
these top people are aware of the whereabouts of Bijlani, who is an accused in
this case, but they are not arresting him.
Sunny
further said that Bijlani could have been easily arrested when he had staged a
shootout. According to Sunny, it is these policemen who have helped Bijlani to
go underground and remain there. He also pointed out as to how Bijlani was
trying to fool the court. Bijlani was refused bail by the Supreme Court but he
went on to apply for a bail at Indore
Court . Sunny said that Bijlani had not informed
the Indore Court
about having been refused the bail by Supreme Court.
Bijlani
had however pleaded to the Court that his father was suffering from cancer and
hence he should be granted a bail. The Court after studying the entire case and
after hearing Sunny’s side of the story refused to offer bail to Bijlani and
asked the police to arrest him at once. But Bijlani could not be arrested as he
had gone underground once again. Sunny blamed the police officials for letting
Bijlani to go into the hiding.
However,
the police have got the information that Bijlani is not absconding but he is
just consulting the legal experts to find out what would be the right thing for
him to do under the current circumstances.
Sunny
even went to the extent of questioning as to why Bijlani’s properties were not
being attached by the police when he has been found absconding for such a long
period. However, the police defended themselves by saying that they cannot
attach Bijlani’s properties until the court declares him as absconder and gives
orders to attach his properties.
It
was Sunny who was instrumental in getting the Home Department to transfer the
case from the hands of Navi Mumbai police to Mumbai Crime Branch. Sunny had
personally met the Home Minister R R Patil and expressed his lack of confidence
in Navi Mumbai Police and thus he had managed to get the case transferred to
Mumbai police.
In the meantime, Bijlani refuses to believe that
Lahoria, before he died, had mentioned his name since Bijlani strongly believes
that Lahoria was not in a position to speak even a word in that condition. He
believes that he is being framed in this case. However, the police are
confident that they will be in a position to apprehend Bijlani in a matter of
short time.
