Controversy
over Arunachal Pradesh guest house that is yet to come up in Navi Mumbai
By Dinesh Kamath
NAVI MUMBAI: In October 2007 the government of state of Arunachal
Pradesh, during the tenure of Dorjee Khandu, and US Roofs had signed the lease
agreement for the construction of Arunachal Pradesh guest house-cum-emporium in
Navi Mumbai. The agreement was meant for a period of 60 years. But now the Arunachal
Pradesh unit of NCP has expressed its total opposition to this agreement
claiming that it was "devoid of sound financial reasoning and against the
long-term interests of the people of Arunachal."
NCP
president Kahfa Bengia has sent a representation to CM Nabam Tuki, stating that
amount of Rs 10.01 crore which was given for the lease was just a throwaway
price.
Though
US Roofs was to hand over the structure within 2.5 years from the date of
obtaining the commencement certificate, more than five years have passed and
the developer has neither handed over the building nor made any alternate
arrangement for patients and students from Arunachal arriving in Mumbai and
nearby cities.
Under
the agreement, the developer is liable to provide alternative premises in the
same area free of cost for temporary use if it failed to hand over the
structure within the stipulated time.
