Chavan and
Ahluwalia to discuss Navi Mumbai airport project
By Dinesh Kamath
NAVI MUMBAI: Chief Minister of Maharashtra Prithviraj Chavan and
Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia will be discussing the
Navi Mumbai International
Airport project during a
meeting that will be held in Mumbai.
The
problems relating to land acquisition have been delaying the project, and this
in turn has resulted in escalation of cost, which has reportedly shot up from
Rs 14,000 crore to Rs 17,000 crore. During the meeting the state government
will talk about the initiatives it took to speed up land acquisition.
The
state will ask for the power to appoint a developer. A discussion on roadblocks
concerning development of the notified area within 25-km radius of the airport
project will also take place.
Chavan
and Ahluwalia will try to come up with a solution that will appease the PAPs
and also make the task of land acquisition easier.
