‘Empire’ is an American musical
drama television series which debuted on Fox on January 7, 2015. The show
centers around a hip hop music and entertainment company, Empire Enterprises,
and the drama among the members of the founders' family as they fight for control
of the company. The hour-long family drama was created by Lee Daniels and Danny
Strong, and stars Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson.
This TV serial narrates an
extremely interesting story. Hip-hop artist and CEO of Empire Entertainment,
Lucious Lyon, has always ruled unchallenged, but a medical diagnosis predicts
he will be incapacitated in three years, which prompts the sharks to circle.
Without further damaging his family, he must decide which of his three sons
will take over. His favorite, young Hakeem, is a gifted musician but values
fame over hard work. Middle son, Jamal, is talented and shy but gay --
embarrassing to Lyon. The oldest, Andre, is business-minded but lacks charisma.
The reappearance of Cookie, his ex-wife, complicates things; she says he owes her
for taking the fall for the drug-running that financed his early career. Thus
the story of TV serial ‘Empire’ is simply fascinating.
Terrence Howard as Lucious Lyon,
a former drug dealer turned hip hop mogul and the CEO of Empire Entertainment,
has performed magnificently.
Taraji P. Henson as Cookie Lyon,
Lucious' outspoken ex-wife and mother of his three sons, who served a 17-year
stretch in prison for drug dealing, is simply fascinating and unforgettable.
She is simply impressive.
Trai Byers as Andre Lyon, the
eldest son of the Lyon family and CFO of Empire Entertainment, Jussie Smollett
as Jamal Lyon, the middle son and "black sheep" of the Lyon family, a
talented, gay singer-songwriter, and Bryshere Y. Gray as Hakeem Lyon, the
fame-obsessed youngest son and Lucious' favorite child, who is a hip hop star
on the rise, have played their respective roles fabulously, impressively and
most superbly.
