NAVI MUMBAI: All
Churches in Navi Mumbai and Christians from various Churches celebrated Palm
Sunday yesterday.
The Infant Jesus Church Koperkhairne at Christ Academy
School, sector 23, Koperkhairne too celebrated the Palm Sunday with a
procession followed by Holy mass at 8.00 am. Vicar Fr. Jinto Edattukunnel was
main celebrant. About 400 Parishioners and other members were present. .
"Palm Sunday is the final Sunday in the Lenten
season, signifying the beginning of Holy Week. Holy Week is the week leading up
to Easter and is held in remembrance of Jesus' time in Jerusalem before he died
and, according to Christianity, was resurrected" said Antony Philip.
"Good Friday celebration and Live procession will
start on 3rd April at 2.30 am from Sector 23 and will pass through Demart, teen
tanki, jimmy tower etc" he added
Palm Sunday commemorates Jesus' entrance into Jerusalem.
As he rode into the city on a donkey, his followers spread palm branches at his
feet and called him "Hosanna" or "savior." Palm branches
were considered symbols of victory and triumph at the time. Days later, the
people of Jerusalem would turn on Jesus and demand the Romans to crucify him.
According to Christianity, Jesus would actually be the
savior of his people - as He would save them from their sins, conquering death
in doing so.
