CIDCO displays willingness
to solve city residents’ problems relating to transport
By Dinesh Kamath
NAVI MUMBAI: The
population of Kharghar is keeping on increasing and the transport system needs
to be improved to satisfy the needs of the growing population. This is the reason
why City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) decided to treat this
issue most seriously and provide relief to the residents of Kharghar by taking
a decision to provide them three bus terminals and a depot.
Depot will come up at sector 15 and the three terminals
will be near Spaghetti housing complex, Sector 22, close to Tata Memorial
Hospital, and sector 25 near Central Park respectively. Kamothe will also have a
terminal along the Sion-Panvel highway. The depot will enable bus drivers to
park their vehicles over there and if these vehicles face problems relating to
maintenance then there is no better place than a depot.
These depot and terminals can be used by NMMT, BEST, other
bus services like the ones by Panvel Municipal Council, transport buses of
MSRTC and Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Transport buses and so on. Also these
terminals will be joined to the Metro stations.
CIDCO has been paying keen interest in solving the
problems related to transport faced by city residents. This was evident when it
constructed two terminals at Mansarovar and Khandeshwar railway station.
Constructing of a terminal is not an easy job since there
has to be a vacant plot available to do the construction and hence there are
some places in the city which badly require terminal but CIDCO has not been
able to provide it owing to lack of space. CIDCO is determined to provide bus
shelters at various places in Navi Mumbai wherever they are required.
