Hindu organizations stage a protest at Vashi
Demand cancellation of program ‘Shan-E-Pakistan’
By Dinesh Kamath and Vijay Bhor

NAVI MUMBAI: Various organizations have demanded that the program ‘Shan-E-Pakistan’ organized by the Central Government be cancelled. These organizations were provoked by the constant attack by Pakistan on India at the border areas. They asked the Indian government to adopt ‘Tit for tat’ policy. The protest was held at Vashi.
The organizations which participated in this protest included Hindu Janjagruti Samiti, Shiv Pratishtan Hidustan, Swabiman Pratishtan, Rajashri Shivba Pracharak Mandal, Akhil Navi Mumbai Hindu Mahasangh, Yog Vedant Samiti, Bajrang Dal, Hindu Mahasabha, Shiv Sena, Sanatan Sanstha and others. There was massive protest held outside Vashi railway station. Many religious people and patriots joined the protest by holding banners indicating their displeasure over the government’s action.

Dr Uday Dhuri of Hindu Andolan Sanghatna said that India should not have any relations with Pakistan till they stopped their terroristic activities. He demanded the cancellation of the program ‘Shan-E-Pakistan’ and ‘Ek Sham Pakistan Ke Naam’ which the Indian government intends to organize from 10 to 12 September, 2015. Dhuri also demanded the stoppage of all sports and entertainment events with Pakistan. He asked the government to respect those soldiers who became martyrs during Pakistan’s attack and cancel any event related with Pakistan. He questioned that if Pakistan has imposed a ban on Indian film ‘Phantom’, why can’t Indian government cancel this Pakistan-based program?

Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'Discipline the elected representatives first' that was published in Newsband

Discipline the elected representatives first
Bharatiya Janata Party is finding the attitude of the principal opposition party, the Congress, discomfiting. Disruption works better for the opposition than for the government. The louder the noise the better it is for the opposition parties: unfortunately, commotion and confusion in Parliament seem to get them better media mileage.
The opposition needs to do more than make some noise if it sincerely believes that the government is in the wrong. Informed discussion and smooth conduct of parliamentary proceedings should be somehow ensured.
Each minute of running Parliament during sessions costs more than three lakhs rupees paid by the Tax-payers in the stalled procedure of parliament. We have been observing very poor and disruptive performance of Indian parliament and Indian state's assemblies for years. Comparatively, parliaments of other countries function smoothly.
Singapore is world's best performing city-state. First Prime Minister, modern Singapore's founding father and 51 year-long cabinet member Mr. Lee Kuan Yew wrote in his book 'From Third World to First' that European style liberal democracy is not suitable for Singapore and Asian countries in General. “India needs some serious changes in the style of its parliamentary (Assemblies included) performance. The reason for India's huge poverty is the very poor representative democracy. Electing more studious and intellectual persons will be one remedy; but more changes are needed,” he added.
Wasting time in parliament for personal benefits will soon produce adverse effects at the polls. Parliament's image has taken a beating long ago. At least a few Politicians should try to become statesmen to give Indian parliament a glorious image
Stalling the proceedings in Parliament is not the function assigned to the members elected by the people. Their duty is to participate in the debate on legislation with a view to formulate the most appropriate legislation for the development of the nation. Those who fail to discharge their primary duty to their electorate should not be paid their pay and allowances. ‘No work no pay’ should be applicable to our elected representatives also.
There are many a redundant laws which are no more required, but serve as escape route to the criminals in the society. Such laws should be replaced and new legislation would be required to accelerate the process of national development. These are the primary functions of the elected representatives.

2 new hospitals all set to start functioning in Navi Mumbai
By Dinesh Kamath

NAVI MUMBAI: Two new NMMC hospitals in Airoli and Nerul are all set to start functioning. The health department of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation had to give in to the pressure applied on them by both residents and local government and try to make these hospitals functional at the earliest.
The residents were very much concerned about the rise in number of patients suffering from malaria, dengue and swine flu owing to which they felt the urgent need of more hospitals in the city to attend to these cases. In the meanwhile the health department of NMMC is also taking steps to control the spread of these diseases.
Both the hospitals will specially be provided with pediatrics and maternity wards. Vashi and Kopakhairane already have civic hospitals and it has been decided to deploy the staff of these two hospitals in the two new hospitals in Airoli and Nerul which is all set to become functional.

Meritorious students to be awarded tablets
By Dinesh Kamath

NAVI MUMBAI: Kharghar grampanchayat, which is considered as the richest panchayat, will award tablets to all the SSC and HSC students who scored over 85% in the board exams. Last year, it had distributed 57 laptops to children scoring over 90% in both SSC and HSC exams. This time laptops are replaced by tablets. This is one panchayat which not only encourages meritorious students but also works in the direction of empowering women, particularly widows, helping poor and backward students and lending a helping hand to disabled persons.

Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'Hindus need leaders like Bal Thackeray' that was published in Newsband

Hindus need leaders like Bal Thackeray
Does the Shiv Sena take offence or feel proud when its founder Bal Thackeray is spoken of as a terrorist with a religious cause? Bal Thackeray was a Hindu revolutionary and not a terrorist. He had instilled the “fear of Hindus” in Indians of other faiths. Hindus badly needed a man like Bal Thackeray during the period he existed. When other parties went out of the way to appease the minority communities, especially the Muslims, Shiv Sena strongly stood in support of Hindus.
In any country of the world, it is the minority communities who go out of the way to appease the majority community so that they can live peacefully. But the strange thing about India is that here the majority community, the Hindus, keep on appeasing their minority counterparts which in turn strangely display aggressive attitudes. Muslims showed aggression when they had the backing of Dawood Ibrahim. Sikhs showed similar aggression when they had the backing of Jarnail Singh Bindranwale. No Hindu pointed accusing fingers at Dawood Ibrahim or Jarnail Singh Bindranwale. Instead the Hindus severely criticized people like Bal Thackeray who stood strongly in support of Hindus.
He defended the Hindus in similar manner as Peshwas in the past who were the only people who had managed to prevent India from going into the hands of Mughals. The violence was always started by the Muslims and Sena were of the right opinion that it is better to Kill and Die rather than Just Die. If they had to go by Gandhian policy, there would be only Muslims in India and not a single Hindu would exist in this land which basically belongs to the Hindus.
The Sena founder was a person who took pride in his faith, and not someone who was motivated by blind faith. It is true that Sena indulges in Marathi chauvinism and believes in Hindutva ideology. Hindus badly need such a group since all the other communities also have such groups.
Yes, the main dispute between India and Pakistan is essentially Hindu-Muslim. The country itself was created out of hatred towards the Hindus. Nobody talks about the venom and vitriol espoused by the Islamic radical leaders in India. But a word of support for Hindus expressed by Sena invites criticisms more from the Hindus than from Muslims or members of any non-Hindu communities.

Have these Hindus who criticize Sena and Bal Thackeray ever heard Naved Jihadi from Pakistan saying "It is fun to kill Hindus". Pakistan has an endless supply of such jihadis, as proudly claimed by Musharaff. With such a backdrop, only a powerful Hindu group like Shiv Sena led by a leader of Bal Thackeray’s caliber can keep the Hindus protected. Instead of criticizing Shiv Sena and Bal Thackeray, it would be wise on the part of all the Hindus to find a leader of Bal Thackeray’s caliber who can continue defending the Hindus against the Hindu-haters.

Dinesh Kamath’s column ‘New movie released in Navi Mumbai’ (Phantom, Baankey Ki Crazy Baraat, Ricki and the Flash, No Escape, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and Kaun Kitney Paani Mein) that was published in Newsband

New movies released in Navi Mumbai
By Dinesh Kamath
Phantom

Phantom is an Indian action-thriller film directed by Kabir Khan and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and Siddharth Roy Kapur starring Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif in leading roles. The screenplay of the film has been written in coordination with author Hussain Zaidi's book Mumbai Avengers on the aftermath of 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
The film Phantom is an adaptation of journalist-turned-author S. Hussain Zaidi's best seller 'Mumbai Avengers'. The film mirrors the prickly issue of cross-border terrorism, which has affected India for decades now. The film starts off with the visuals of the 26/11 Mumbai attack. This is immediately followed by a high octane car chase sequence between Daniyal Khan (Saif Ali Khan) and an unknown man in Chicago (US) who bangs his car and tries to drive away. Daniyal finally gets hold of him but accidentally kicks him off the bridge into the river below. This, then, leads to an array of flashback events, which establishes the connection between Daniyal Khan's past to his present day life. The flashback states that, after being dismissed from the Indian army, Daniyal goes into a hibernation of sorts, living an isolated and secluded life of his own. In the meanwhile, when India's RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) learns about Pakistan based terrorist group Lashkar's yet another plan of attacking India, they plan a secret operation, off the books, to take down all the accused and masterminds behind Mumbai attacks. After much research they decided on hiring Daniyal Khan for this job. The RAW officials believe that Khan is like 'Phantom', he has no records and is completely off the radar. As a part of the mission, he meets up with the beautiful and talented Nawaz (Katrina Kaif) in UK where she works as a 'Security Consultant'. The duo, however, gel well after Daniyal's first two missions in UK and US. Thereafter this duo's journey traverses from Beirut, Syria and finally Pakistan. Even though Daniyal Khan's mission happens to be a 'top secret' and 'highly confidential' one, the Pakistani officials sniff out his plan before Daniyal Khan reaches his ultimate goal of killing Hariz Saeed (Shahnawaz Pradhan), the mastermind behind the 26/11 attacks. Does Daniyal Khan become successful in his life threatening mission, why does Nawaz help him in his mission, are Pakistani authorities able to catch hold of Daniyal Khan are the questions answered in the rest of the story.
The film has Saif Ali Khan as Daniyal Khan, Katrina Kaif as Nawaz Mistry, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Sabyasachi Chakrabarty, Rajesh Tailang and Qazi Touqeer (in Afghan Jalebi (Ya Baba) song)
The soundtrack of the film is composed by Pritam,Komail Shayan (KK) while lyrics are by Amitabh Bhattacharya and Kausar Munir. The film has songs like "Afghan Jalebi (Ya Baba)", "Saware", "Nachda", "Afghan Jalebi (Film Version)", "Afghan Jalebi (Dumbek Version)" and "Ya Baba (Fitna Farebi)".

Baankey Ki Crazy Baraat

Baankey Ki Crazy Baraat is a film produced by Anita Mani and directed by Aijaz Khan. The Star Cast: Sanjay Mishra, Rajpal Yadav, Vijay Raaz, Rakesh Bedi, Tia Bajpai and Satyajeet Dubey. Music Director: Vijayaa Shanker, Abhishek Nailwal. Singers: Vijayaa Shanker, Abhishek Nailwal, Hashim Sabri, Ravi Basnet, Sonu Nigam, Shivranjan and Aftab Sabri. Lyricist: Ravi Basnet
Baankey Ki Crazy Baraat movie is based on the concept of Proxy Wedding, where the boy’s families deceive the girl’s families, in case the boy is not good looking or has a dosh (fault) in his kundali. They hire a ‘proxy’ groom who participates in all the rituals at the wedding and when the girl reaches her in-laws house, she comes to know that the boy during the wedding was changed. The practice is commonly known as Proxy Wedding. Baankey (Rajpal Yadav) a goofy, hyper boy-man is desperate to get married. He is in his mid 30’s and cannot get married due to a 'dosh' in his kundali. His wily chacha Kanhaiya Lal (Sanjay Mishra), a shrewd moneylender, along with his friend, Lallan Bhaiyya,(Vijay Raaz) a village goon, then concoct a plan to get a proxy groom for Baankey's wedding. The proxy groom, Rajesh is thrilled to land up with this project where he is promised a lakh of rupees, to be a proxy groom for two days. On the day the baraat is about to board the bus, Rajesh does not show up. What happens after that is a roller coaster ride in a crazy baraat.

Ricki and the Flash

Ricki and the Flash is a 2015 American comedy-drama film directed by Jonathan Demme and written by Diablo Cody, about a woman who leaves her family to become a rock star and later gets a chance to make amends. The film stars Meryl Streep, Mamie Gummer, Kevin Kline, Sebastian Stan, Rick Springfield, Audra McDonald, and Ben Platt.
Ricki chased her dreams of becoming a famous rock star by abandoning her family. She gets a chance to put things right when her ex-husband Pete asks her to visit Indianapolis and help their estranged daughter Julie through a difficult time.
Ricki has a rock band that plays a regular gig at a small bar, when she isn't working as a cashier to make ends meet. Julie recently attempted suicide because her husband cheated on her and is divorcing her. Despite being broke, Ricki comes to Indianapolis to help her daughter, but Julie is hostile. Likewise, her two sons are hostile and unwelcoming. One is gay and the other recently became engaged, though no one told their mother. Still, Ricki gets through to Julie. Unfortunately, her husband's second wife, Maureen, returns unexpectedly, confronting Ricki with some hard truths. She wasn't there for her children when they needed her and Maureen was. Ashamed, Ricki returns to her band in California angry and bitter, insulting her guitarist who is in love with her. He makes her realize he cares and they make love. Maureen sends Ricki an invitation to the son's wedding as an olive branch, but Ricki can't afford to go. Her boyfriend sells his best guitar to pay for the tickets. Despite her attempts at reconciliation, it's clear she's still an outsider. The wedding guests look askance at Ricki when she gets up to toast the bride and groom. As her gift, having no money, she has her band take over and play for the guests. Her son and his bride start the wedding dance and slowly the guests join in.

No Escape

No Escape is a 2015 American action thriller film directed by John Erick Dowdle, who co-wrote the screenplay with his brother, Drew Dowdle. The film stars Owen Wilson, Lake Bell, and Pierce Brosnan, and tells the story of a businessman trapped with his family in a war zone.
In their new overseas home in Southeast Asia, an American family finds themselves caught in the middle of a coup, and they frantically look for a safe escape in an environment where foreigners are being immediately executed.
No Escape establishes its scenario using the "stranger in a strange land" premise. Unassuming engineer Jack Dwyer (Owen Wilson) transplants his family - wife Annie (Lake Bell) and young daughters Lucy (Sterling Jerins) and Beeze (Claire Geare) - from the familiarity of Austin, Texas to the incongruity of an unnamed, unstable south Asian nation. What initially looks like a promising new start turns into a nightmare. A coup and the resulting unrest make the environment toxic for foreigners - especially those associated with Jack's new employer, a multinational conglomeration understandably demonized by the rioters. As the situation becomes increasingly dangerous for the Dwyers, with their hotel under siege and the American embassy sacked, a British ex-pat named Hammond (Pierce Brosnan) comes to their aid in an attempt to redeem an uneasy conscience.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is a 2015 British-American action comedy spy film directed by Guy Ritchie and co-written by Lionel Wigram and Ritchie, based on the 1964 MGM television series of the same name, which was created by Sam Rolfe. The film stars Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer, Alicia Vikander, Elizabeth Debicki and Hugh Grant. The film was released on August 14, 2015.
In the early 1960s, CIA agent Napoleon Solo (Henry Cavill) and KGB agent Illya Kuryakin (Armie Hammer) are forced to put aside longstanding hostilities and team up on a joint mission to stop a mysterious international criminal organization, which is bent on destabilizing the fragile balance of power through the proliferation of nuclear weapons and technology. The duo’s only lead is the daughter of a vanished German scientist, who is the key to infiltrating the criminal organization, and they must race against time to find him and prevent a worldwide catastrophe.

Kaun Kitney Paani Mein

Kaun Kitney Paani Mein is an Indian drama film directed by Nila Madhab Panda starring Saurabh Shukla, Kunal Kapoor, Radhika Apte and Gulshan Grover in lead roles. The film has Kunal Kapoor, Radhika Apte, Saurabh Shukla and Gulshan Grover.

Kaun Kitne Paani Mein is a story about two villages, Upri and Bairi. Upri is a village nestled in the hills and Bairi is at the base of the Hill Range although close to each other in proximity, are poles apart in every other measure as of water access and economic development. The people of Upri were like royal ones and they had used the people of Bairi as their employees. This had made the people of Bairi skilled in their work and also become good farmers. But in 1992, as a result of a love quarrel between a young girl from Upri and a young man from Bairi, the villagers of Upri excommunicated the inhabitants of Bairi. The people of Bairi were devastated since they got employment, food and money from working in Upri. But the village survived. The thing that made them survive was the real knowledge they had in terms of farming, harvesting and building wells while they were working for the rich people from Upri. Few years later an immense drought hit the area where Upri and Bairi are located. Then the equation of power between the two villages completely changed because of WATER. The head of the Upri village had a son Rajesh (Raj) Singh in his mid-20's who was coming back to the village after his higher education in the nearby city. The people of Upri had pinned all their hopes on Raj and wanted him to sort out the mess of water for them. The head of the Bairi village has one daughter, Janhavi. Janhavi, the heroine of the story, is a girl very rooted to the cause of water and Bairi. She knows very clearly what made Bairi grow and what made Upri what it is. She is a girl who has no problem speaking her mind. She has an opinion and is also the women’s voice in the Panchayat. The rest is pure Bollywood movie with love, politics, plot, music and dance.

Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'Talks can’t solve Indo-Pak problem' that was published in Newsband

Talks can’t solve Indo-Pak problem
India and Pakistan failed to hold the planned meeting between their National Security Advisers, as was agreed in Ufa six weeks ago. At Ufa there was an agreement that the NSAs would “discuss all issues connected to terrorism”. There is urgent need of peace and tranquility along the border and the Line of Control (LoC), which has been witnessing rounds of wanton firing and unacceptable casualties. How will the two nuclear-capable neighbours deal with each other?
The violation of ceasefire along LOC by Pakistani Army is an act of nonsense and immaturity both by the Pakistani Government and the Army. But India must behave and act maturely as the issue is highly sensitive and a world level talk on International platform is urgently needed. This could be achieved by putting economic sanction and international pressure by the US, China and EU for the sake of restoring global peace.
There are alternatives other than talks. Why not mass troops at the border as a defensive measure to Pakistani provocations? It appears that for the Pakistanis, the Partition is an unfinished story. They wanted a separate nation and got it. Now they want to destroy India. Whether it is diplomatic talk or political talk, Pakistan always breaks the protocol. It clearly reflects that Pakistan has more internal disturbances and instability. It can't be tackled without political will, international cooperation and mutual settlements of both the countries.
Nobody ever accused India of starting a war against Pakistan. And Pakistan never won any war against India. Nuclear weapons are not weapons of war. They are only weapons of deterrence. If one side uses its nuclear weapons, it should be prepared for retaliation in kind from the other. India has no bad schemes for Pakistan. If Pakistan stops its terrorist activity against India, then things can be normal.
Pakistan has been using terrorism as an instrument of its policy against India since 1990.  India should refuse to have any relations or concern with Pakistan unless it first ceased its terrorist activity against India.
There is indeed an alternative to talks - and that is the inevitable war that now has to be the volcanic recourse and response to terrorism. Is it wisdom to accumulate pent-up anger forever? Can terrorism be allowed to be the blackmailing tool for talks on Kashmir? Can we really deal with a dichotomous set of institutions that form a rogue nation? Have we not tried enough? Pakistan has done its' utmost to provoke India and the magnitude of Indian appeasement and tolerance has been strange, unparalleled, and unprecedented in all of history. Are we still learning statecraft? While we do live in a Global Village, to whom are we obliged to prove our levels of tolerance? And if those whom the Indians want to please haven't acknowledged our tolerance by now, they never will. Haven't we been doing this for over two decades now w/o any tangible result? Don't we have any sense of shame getting rebuffed like this by a much smaller nation for decades now and still we keep harping on talks? Best things will be to prepare ourselves to handle terror and any eventuality for retaliation. Ignore that country rather than accord unnecessary importance raising their stature even while making us look like a wimpish soft state with no sense of self pride or honor. Yes, we want economic progress - but enough is enough.
India does not want to lose any more territory after losing what is now Pakistan and Bangladesh. Pakistan still looks greedily at Muslim-majority Kashmir valley. In short India should never have been partitioned on 'religious' lines. Hindus never wanted to divide India, they wanted a united India irrespective of religion and culture.

Talks for the sake of talks are futile. Either way Pakistan will not cease its terror activities and the firing on the border, they will continue. So it is high time India thought of something else other than holding talks.

Precautionary measures being taken to ensure peaceful Ganesh Festival
By Dinesh Kamath

NAVI MUMBAI: Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has taken a strict stand during the forthcoming Ganesh Festival. They have asked the devotees of Lord Ganesh to obtain No Objection Certificate from police if they wished to put up Ganesh Mandals. Without NOC, no Ganesh Mandals will be allowed to function, said the NMMC authorities. This they said was the order of the Court.
The mandal owners were also warned that they should not block the entire road by installing their pandals. They were told to leave open a reasonable amount of space for the members of public to use. NMMC has also come heavily against putting up of hoardings and have granted permission to put up not more than two hoardings by each mandal.
The encroachment department and ward officers have been extremely busy sorting out ways and means to prevent Ganesh Mandals from becoming a source of harassment for them during the forthcoming Ganesh Festival. It seems that they have learnt from their experiences during the Ganesh Festivals in the past. NMMC had to face the defiance of these mandals who would come up with pandals right on the middle of the road, thus challenging the Law. This time the civic body has become wiser and has asked each mandal to furnish with NMMC all their details, including the date of immersing of the statues, so that both the civic body and the police department will not have to face any kind of problem during the festival period.
NMMC is also busy cleaning all the lakes and ponds which will be used for immersion. Both NMMC and Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate are jointly working out strategies to tackle any problem that arises during the festival period.
The police commissioner has asked all the Ganesh mandals to install as many CCTV as possible so that no crime committed during the festival period will go undetected. In the past, criminals would use this festival period as opportunity to make enormous profit. But the advent of CCTV cameras has made their criminal business suffer considerably.
The pickpockets, stalkers and other anti-social elements are easily caught nowadays thanks to CCTV cameras which never fail to display any crime taking place within the areas they are focused on. Popular Mandals which attract more crowds are told to install most number of CCTV cameras to prevent any miscreant from playing any kind of mischief.
The city police are also alert in case of any terror threats that might crop up during the festival. The strategies to decide how many policemen should be deployed at which spots are being worked out as accurately as possible. Even the members of public are being told to remain alert and report to the nearest police chowky in case someone is found moving around in a manner that invites their suspicion.

The owners of Ganesh Mandals are also become aware of the seriousness of the situation and they are not hesitating to spend any amount to have CCTV cameras installed during the festival. Thus all necessary precautionary measures are being taken to ensure that Ganesh Festival this time is celebrated in a peaceful atmosphere without the interference of any anti-social element. So it is hoped that everything will go smooth during the forthcoming Ganesh festival.

Dinesh Kamath's news 'Preparation for Raksha Bandhan Day in progress' that was published in Newsband

Preparation for Raksha Bandhan Day in progress
By Dinesh Kamath

NAVI MUMBAI: Navi Mumbai is one city which pays special attention to special kids. Before the Raksha Bandhan Festival starts, the rakhis made by special children have been kept for sale in different parts of Navi Mumbai. These special kids have been competing with one another to make most number of Rakhis and even to come up with Rakhis which would be sold for the highest price. The Rakhis made by these special kids are being sold not for profit but to make them feel one like other normal people during the festival.
Students from Swami Brahmananda Pratisthan in CBD and ETC centre in Vashi are doing an excellent job in the matter of preparing beautifully designed rachis.
Considering the fact that Raksha Bandhan is just a week away, the shops in Navi Mumbai are adorned with a huge number of Rakhis of various designs and colours and also with different prices. The made-in-China Rakhis are preferred by many people owing to their low price and eye-catching designs. Rakhis made of beads, pearls, trinkets, bracelets and shiny stones are also in demand. Kids prefer Rakhis having their favourite cartoon characters.
The shops in APMC particularly are doing roaring business. These areas appear bright and colourful and crowded with Rakhi-buyers from various parts of Navi Mumbai. There is great demand also for Rakhis made in India. The shops display Rakhis right from simple threads to the more elaborate and fancy ones. The modern youngsters prefer to buy stylish Rakhis. The demand is not only for the Rakhis but also puja materials and other paraphernalia required during the festival.
Thus the residents of Navi Mumbai are preparing themselves for Raksha Bandhan the Hindu festival that celebrates the love and duty between brothers and sisters and which is also popularly used to celebrate any brother-sister relationship between men and women who are relatives or biologically unrelated.
Many women of the city particularly are busy shopping for Rakhis, the ceremonial thread marking brother-sister love. Some women are making their own Rakhis. There are some who prefer Rakhi to be a simple thread, woven and colorful; others like a Rakhi to be intricate with amulets and decoration on top of it. The men of Navi Mumbai too are looking forward to get an opportunity to wear Rakhis like a fancy wrist watch or wrist accessory in the form of bracelet or jewellery. Rakhi in the form of a colorful woven thread are preferred by most of the common people. It is not just the women who are doing the shopping. Men too are shopping in search of eye-catching gifts for the sister. Common people prefer to give their sisters simple gifts as a simple thoughtful token of love.
The city residents are also on the lookout for nice dresses to wear during this occasion. The sisters and brothers who are geographically separated are all prepared to mail the Rakhis and gifts, along with greeting cards or letters wishing each other well. The other items that the city residents are on the lookout for are lighted lamps (diyas) which are required while performing the rituals on Raksha Bandhan Day.

During a survey it was found that most of the brothers preferred to give their sisters gifts such as cards, clothes, money or something thoughtful.

Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'People’s interest should come above any political party’s interest' that was published in Newsband

People’s interest should come above any political party’s interest
The Bharatiya Janata Party speaks for all Hindus in Jammu, and the Peoples Democratic Party represents all Muslims in Kashmir. The attitude of the BJP-led government at the Centre towards the PDP-led government in Jammu and Kashmir is being watched by all the political pundits.
PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has communicated to BJP president Amit Shah that the alliance would be untenable without the special financial package for J&K, which was meant to generate jobs and rebuild infrastructure in the State, affected by natural calamities and terror. But the problem is while BJP leaders would want a substantial part of the package to be spent in Jammu, the PDP leaders are hoping the package would be mostly to revive Kashmir’s economy.
Centre seems to hesitate to give any package to J & K to prevent conflict between BJP and PDP. Now the question is not whether the package would strengthen or worsen PDP-BJP relations but whether the people of J&K get a package that is large, equitable and just. All political parties see development programme through their political prism. The first question asked is whether their party will benefit by implementing such program. If not, drop it. All political parties should get out of this mindset and get involved in all-round development of people in a rational manner.
The package should serve to bolster the economy of the state and not merely the interests of the BJP in Jammu or PDP. It is the people who would benefit from it.
Once the alliance is formed on the common minimum program, parties should adhere to that irrespective of the situation. The problem with the alliance between BJP and PDP is that both parties have exactly opposite target audience. Something drastic should be done to ensure that both parties have consensus on any issue.
Politicians are only interested in the perks of power. Even when a political party has full majority in any State, there is very little or no development but full of "scams" benefitting only those in power or those around them. The assets of politicians increase every five years by anywhere between 30% and 500 %. This is what is officially declared when filing their candidacies. This has been the situation for the last sixty eight years. We need serious electoral reforms if we are to obtain good governance and make any progress. In India we only talk. There is very little action.
Political parties put their interests before the interests of the electorate who brought them to power. It becomes extremely difficult to pacify the interest of parties in States where there is a coalition. Kashmir, a territory torn apart by terrorism for nearly four decades and now in the eye of the storm due to climatic hazards is in urgent need of rehabilitation. To achieve this goal the squabbling between PDP and BJP should stop first and foremost.

The time is rife for the parties to set aside their differences and work together to live up to the aspirations of the people and strengthen their trust on democracy. This will also prevent the youth of the region from being bait to secessionist groups.

Will NMMC fulfill the demand of MNS?
The demand includes a library and screening of Marathi films at Vishnudas Bhave Auditorium
By Dinesh Kamath

NAVI MUMBAI: Vashi’s Vishnudas Bhave Auditorium will soon have a library of its own. Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation is working on this idea. The civic body will also do the repair-work of the auditorium wherever damages are noticed.
Having a library in this auditorium was the idea of some members of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena. MNS workers were also very keen about making use of the auditorium to show Marathi films. “When all types of programs are being conducted here, why not give special preference to Marathi films?” – this was their question. The idea that films made in local language could fetch big revenue appealed to NMMC authorities.

Plans are being worked out with technical experts along this direction and an attempt will be made to make the library so spacious that maximum books can be accommodated in it. There are other works like having a high quality audio system and upgrading of air-conditioning system in the auditorium which will be executed. Both the engineering department and technical department of NMMC are seriously working on this idea of renovating the auditorium and having a library in it.

Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'When will India get super power status in UN?' that was published in Newsband

When will India get super power status in UN?
The United States opposed any large-scale reforms in the United Nations Security Council. U.S. teamed up with Russia and China to oppose negotiations on reforms. Then why did US President Barack Obama promise India that it would back New Delhi’s candidacy for a permanent seat at the global decision-making body? Why did U.S. Ambassador to India Richard Verma also say that his country remained committed to its promise? What happened to this promise?
In a quarter century, the global economic architecture has undergone massive changes. The developing nations, including India, now play a bigger role in international affairs. But within the UN, the five permanent veto-wielding members still effectively take all the crucial decisions.
India’s demand for a permanent seat has to be looked into. First, it is the world’s largest democracy and Asia’s third largest economy. The Indian Army is the largest contributor to the UN peacekeeping mission. India’s foreign policy always supported world peace, and not conflicts. As a permanent member of the UNSC it will be able to play a larger role concerning pressing international issues.
Actually the five superpower nations are addicted to power. Why someone would want to curtail its power by giving VETO to India? Actually they are not considering the global image and participation of India in emerging world, instead they are giving priorities to their personal whim, like China obviously would never support India's bid in UN because of land and border dispute with India and in favor of Pak. Despite knowing the facts that India is a powerful nation with 17.5% of the world's population, India is not being offered UNSC permanent seat.
US, USSR and China are purely playing a political game in the global arena by not allowing a role for India in UNSC because they know well once India is given the power with veto, as a peace loving nation real peace will start flowering and the so called war machine industry will lose their lucrative business .
India represents 1.2 billion people who are left voiceless in the most important international forum. The fact is that the US and Russia only, together hold more than 90% of the world's stockpile of nuclear weapons, and the two make most of the decisions. China and E3 are just secondary players.

A nation is destined to be measured only by its muscles. India should manufacture all their weapon systems, only then will they be considered for permanent membership in UN. Before that, someone seeking admission as a permanent member without enough weapons is like seeking admission to IIT because that someone is OBC.
