2014 witnessed the best Wimbledon tournament so far
Wimbledon 2014 was a great one. The extraordinary men’s final between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer was indeed a classic. In this tournament, an exciting new breed of players displayed their potential and true promise. Grigor Dimitrov, Eugenie Bouchard, Milos Raonic and Nick Kyrgios might become the future Wimbledon Champs. This tournament had its moments of psychodrama — the twists and turns that can transform a tennis match into suspenseful theatre. Each player constantly challenged the other to surpass himself.
In the Men’s game, Djokovic, who served better and came good at some critical moments, was the deserved winner while Federer failed to win his 18th Grand Slam. Women’s trophy went to former Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitová.
The final between Djokovic and legend Federer was simply worth watching. Both players played audacious as well as classy shots. There were other great matches too like when Krygios beat Nadal. It made one wonder whether Krygios will make it as a Wimbledon Champ in the near future.
The semifinal between Djokovic and Dimitrov was interesting as well. Dimitrov played neck to neck with Djokovic's game. Although Djokovic won in the end, but Dimitrov left an indelible impression in the minds of tennis lovers and he is another person to watch in the future.
We saw a lot new players in Women’s category too. Their performances made the audience talk about them and compare them with big names. With the big players departing early in the tournament and new faces emerging out and staying a bit longer, we can expect that the next coming years will be fun-filled and more dreadful for the big guns in the tough competitions.
The sight of Djokovic shedding tears of joy and dedicating the trophy to his soon to be wife and expected baby was touching.
Tennis for the last five years have been completely dominated by big four namely, Roger, Rafeal, Novak and Andy. Days are not far when we will see some new face giving them tough fight. The power structure in tennis will shift, as it must, and it is always a nostalgic and exciting time to welcome new champions and let go of the familiar ones.
During this Wimbledon, we have seen a shift in the playing style of tennis. More and more players are playing power packed tennis and single handed backhands. This makes one sure that the days are not far when grand slams will be won by flayers other than the big four.
It was sad to see prodigious Federer who reigned supreme in the game of tennis only couple of years ago having found himself overwhelmed by the formidable opponents like Nadal and Djokovic. Although age is a factor for any sportsperson in keeping the form and fitness in high gear, sometimes luck also plays a big part in a competition. The latest Wimbledon final was a seesaw battle between him and Djokovic in which the latter was lucky to win. Let us hope Federer defies his age and keeps his form and wins some coveted grand slam tournaments for which he has been desperately trying since last couple of years. World wants to see his sweet winning smile of winning a grand slam at least once more before his retirement.

On the whole, the final was a great display of professional tennis at its best.
