Indo-US friendship necessary to control China
The current Indian government is harbouring some bitter feelings when it comes to making policies relating to Indo-US relations. First is the revelation that the U.S. National Security Agency had sought and received official permission to put the Bharatiya Janata Party under surveillance in 2010. Next is the Khobragade episode. Still another issue is relating to the cancellation of a visa to Narendra Modi when he was Chief Minister.
However, US now seems to want India to forget the past and hence we witnessed the visit by Republican Senator John McCain, chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. Over and above that, US President Obama’s administration has made it clear that the Prime Minister would receive a red-carpet welcome in Washington in September.
New Delhi also seems to be sending out the message that its foreign policy priorities are different from its predecessor’s. But good U.S.-India ties are in the “enlightened national interest” of both sides. A way must be found to break the ice before the September Washington summit. Indian PM should engage good advisors to guide him along the path for foreign relationship priorities leading to prosperity of the country.
Remember that in the 1960s ‘Hindi Chini bhai bhai’ meetings between Chinese PM Chou En-Lai and Indian PM Nehru was followed by border region military takeover by China. India needs as much as US each other to counter such adventures by China. India also needs US investment and trade for its economic growth.
Indo-US relations will thrive in spite of and not because of the respective governments in power. This is the power of the three unassailable 'E's - English, Education and Economics. The Economics part is referring to the thriving Indian community in the US. That day is not far off when an Indian American is on a successful 'ticket' to America's highest (or the next) office. There is no gainsaying the fact that a strong 'India-US' relationship is not only mutually beneficial but also beneficial for Asia especially with the various geopolitical developments threatening peace.
It is true that America should stop doing things that hurt some Indians and go by the International laws. James Madison, the founding father of USA constitution had said, "If men were angels there would be no need of law" meaning there by “Don't expect that whole world is occupied with full of morality and honesty. Every one wants to take advantage of something from others. So the only way to make oneself in advantageous position is realizing one’s mistakes as soon as possible and try not to repeat it.”
India is a rising power and needs to start behaving like one. Whatever attention US gives to India it’s not because it has any admiration of India for its so called spirituality and glorious past, but because it has to contain China and want to use India as its proxy against not just China but all those countries which are either communists regime or against the hegemony of US. India too needs the help of US to contain China. Thus both the countries need each other.
As for spying on political parties, this is done by all major countries who have the necessary skills and equipment. It does not mean that no other major political party in India been spied upon. Espionage is among the oldest professions. Only, the methods have become more advanced.

India has to have a proactive and protracted intelligence of its own. India is in the big league now, inward looking agenda may not be sufficient to establish credibility and sustainability in the world arena. India has come to the dawn of "think global, act global." There is no other way, or perish.
