Gang of teenagers create havoc in a Panvel-bound local
By Dinesh Kamath
NAVI MUMBAI: A gang of around 12 teenagers boarded a Panvel-bound local at Mankhurd station and looted four commuters on Tuesday morning.
The commuters put up a fight against the gang and they managed to catch hold of one boy while another boy, while jumping off the train, hit another train running the opposite direction and died.
The boys, all aged between 14 to 19 years, are the residents of Lallubhai Compound in Mankhurd. They had visited the Siddhivinayak temple at Prabhadevi earlier and then resorted to committing such a big sin.
The police arrested the one member of the gang and they are hunting for the rest of the members.
At around 5.30 am, the teenagers boarded the luggage compartment of the Panvel-bound local at Mankhurd station. As the train started moving out of Mankhurd station towards Vashi, the boys started slapping and assaulting the passengers. They managed to loot them of their mobile phones and cash, all worth around Rs 15000. After the train crossed the Vashi creek, they pulled the emergency alarm chain in the compartment owing to which the train slowed down. Next they jumped down the train. However, the passengers managed to catch hold of one boy.
Next some of them climbed into the adjoining ladies compartment. But the women in the compartment were brave and they refused to part with their valuables. They put up a fight
which made the boys jump off the train in a bid to escape from there. But one boy rammed straight into another local passing in the opposite direction, and died on the spot.
The boy who was caught by the passengers was handed to the police. He is 14 years old and has been sent to the observation home for juveniles.
