By Dinesh Kamath
NAVI MUMBAI: Vehicle drivers in Navi Mumbai are asked to be in possession of fitness certificate of their vehicles. If they’re found without this certificate they can land in serious trouble.
Previously a vehicle driver would be fined Rs 100 per day from the expiry date of the certificate if found without the fitness certificate of the vehicle. But now the fine has been increased to Rs 1000 per day. Not only that the license of the driver will be suspended for 10 days.
The vehicle drivers without the fitness certificate are asked to visit the RTO office and apply for the same. They just have to pay the fees of Rs 200 to 400. The new certificate is valid for two years.
It is beneficial to vehicle owner if he is in possession of fitness certificate of his vehicle. In case his fitness certificate has expired and if his vehicle meets with an accident, then even the insurance company refuses to make the payment. Not only that the registration of such vehicles are considered as invalid.
Some vehicles run without a fitness certificate because the vehicles are in a damaged condition. The lives of people travelling by such vehicles are in danger and also the vehicle owner and driver can land into deep trouble if caught by the authorities. They can be made to face strict legal action.
Both Navi Mumbai Dy RTO and Panvel RTO have fixed 15 April 2013 as the last day before which all the vehicle owners are asked to be in possession of valid fitness certificates of their vehicles.
