NAVI MUMBAI: The group known as 'Vande Matram' not only requested the Navi Mumbai residents not to disrespect the National Flag but also set an example by collecting nearly 300 tricolours of various sizes which were just thrown on the roads and stations by certain elements.
This group tried to tell the people that disrespecting the Naitonal Flag was an act of crime since Law doesn’t permit an Indian citizen to insult the National Flag.
This group was joined by many taxi and autorickshaw drivers outside Vashi railway station complex and they also volunteered to pick up the tricolours which were lying on the roadside.
With organizations like Vande Matram taking initiative to educate the citizens in the matter of how to respect the National Flag, the cases of people discarding away the flags on the roadside is becoming less and less. In the past, during every Independence or Republic Day, National Flags would be seen lying on roadsides after the celebrations would be over. But thanks to organizations like Vande Matram, more and more citizens are becoming aware that such kind of behaviour is wrong. Such a behaviour is not only anti social but also anti national. It is an insult to our soldiers posted at the border who are always prepared to give up their lives for the National Flag.
