of twins to undergo psychological test
By Dinesh Kamath
NAVI MUMBAI: Shobha Sonar (30) is the woman who murdered
month-old twin boys. The police will be making her undergo psychological tests.
Shobha was arrested on Wednesday for drowning the twins in a
drum of water at the family home in New Panvel.
The police wish to know whether the woman is mentally unfit or
disturbed and to find out this they will be doing her psychological evaluation.
She never had any psychiatric problems in the past nor was she
found suffering from any kind of mental disorder.
Shobha has been remanded to police custody till April 6. When
the police questioned her husband who is an electronic technician, he said that
he had been married to Shobha for two years and that she had never shown such
murderous tendency anytime. He further informed that she was a teacher in the
past but owing to responsibilities she had to shoulder after her marriage, she
left the job. He did find something wrong with the kind of temperament that
Shobha displayed at times but she didn’t appear to him so murderously
dangerous.
His mother also had found Shobha’s moods fluctuating sometimes
and she tended to take long naps in her room. Shobha was not happy about her
mother-in-law’s presence in the home after the twins were born and she wanted
her out of the house. The twins were to be named on Hindu’s New Year Day.
It was Shobha’s mother-in-law who happened to first detect the
bodies of the two babies in the water drum. Shobha confessed her crime and
didn’t seem to feel even a bit guilty about it. She was then handed over to Khandeshwar
police who arrested her.
