Police nab
teenagers who created havoc in the train
By Dinesh Kamath
NAVI MUMBAI: Some teenagers had got into the Panvel-bound local at
Makhurd and looted the commuters. One teenager was caught hold of by the
commuters and handed to the police. Another teenager, Akshay Shirke (16), had died
after being badly hit by another local while he was jumping off the train.
Others had escaped but within few hours the police managed to arrest other eight
culprits with the help of the one person they had arrested.
All these youngsters, except one,
are minors and they were sent to the Home for juveniles in Bhivandi. Rajiv
Khade (22) who was not a minor was produced in the court. The parents of these
youngsters were of the opinion that the reason for their sons committing this
crime was the bad company they kept.
The police have now started
keeping a strict watch on those youngsters who create havoc in the local trains
and terrify the commuters. The police authorities have been able to identify
the specific compartments that the youngsters usually boarded and they have
begun the practice of posting policemen in plainclothes over there. The police
also joined hands with motormen who halt the train whenever such ruffians
create trouble so that the policemen can catch hold of them.
In a short time, after adopting
this strategy, the police managed to catch hold of quite a big number of
trouble-makers.
