Subhash Shinde
is more than just a policeman
By Dinesh Kamath
NAVI MUMBAI: Subhash Shinde (45) works for Navi Mumbai Police as a sub-inspector. The special feature about
him is that he is more than just a police man. He is involved in many other
activities and this makes him someone who is special.
Shinde is very happy with his
police job. But in addition to that he is pursuing an MBA in human resources. He
is doing this course just because he loves to study. He believes that there is
no end to learning.
At one stage, when he was serving
the Navi Mumbai police department, the then Navi Mumbai police commissioner
Ahmed Javed had asked Shinde to form a cricket team. Shinde formed a team and
in a matter of few months the team which he had built managed to win three
titles. His team won the Thane Vaibhav tournament, Navi Mumbai Sports
Association title and Times Shield ‘F’ Division crown. The team missed to win
the fourth title and finished second in the Navi Mumbai Press Club T20
Tournament.
It was Iqbal Shaikh who inspired Shinde
to achieve this feat. Officers like Ashok Dongre (joint commissioner), Shrikant
Pathak (deputy commissioner) gave him all the backing he needed. Shinde
selected the players from Panvel and Raigad. The people of these two places are
known for their tremendous mental and physical stamina.
Shinde took special care to see
that his players were mentally fit and not just physically active. He made them
read books authored by sports psychologist BP Bam, a former inspector general
of police.
In spite of having achieved such
a major success, Shinde remains modest and down-to-earth. His knowledge of
management has helped him tremendously to manage the cricket team. He was
instrumental in forcing his bosses to sanction for the laying of pitches on the
premises of the Navi Mumbai Police headquarters in Belapur.
Shinde is proud of his one find
who is Ravi Jadhav. This cricketer scored 1,200 runs this season, hammered five
centuries and as many fifties in Times Shield, two tons in Thane Vaibhav and
two in Navi Mumbai Sports Association tourney.
Shinde has one ambition. He wants to see Navi Mumbai
police team make it to ‘A’ division of Times Shield. He is confident of
achieving this feat too one day in the future.
