Star Trek Into Darkness
Star Trek Into Darkness is a 2013 American science fiction action film produced by Bad Robot Productions, K/O Paper Products, Skydance Productions and distributed by Paramount Pictures. It is the twelfth Star Trek film and serves as the sequel to 2009's Star Trek. J. J. Abrams directed a screenplay written by Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, and Damon Lindelof, based on the series of the same name created by Gene Roddenberry. Lindelof, Orci, Kurtzman and Abrams also serve as producers, along with Bryan Burk. Chris Pine reprises his role as Captain James T. Kirk, with Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, John Cho, and Bruce Greenwood reprising their roles from the previous film. Benedict Cumberbatch, Peter Weller and Alice Eve round out the film's principal cast.
Star Trek Into Darkness picks up from where the first film left off and continues to focus on the growing bromance between Kirk (Chris Pine) and half-Vulcan pal Spock (Zachary Quinto). Kirk is the commanding officer of the Enterprise and with Spock, Bones (Karl Urban) and the rest gang alongside of him, they are doing what they do best, exploring alien planets.
However the Star Fleet soon comes under heavy fire from new villain John Harrison (Benedict Cumberbatch) who draws the USS Enterprise out to the limits of its safety in order to bring this savage terrorist to justice.
Starfleet is rocked by a terrorist attack in London masterminded by the mysterious John Harrison (Benedict Cumberbatch).
Kirk, who has been stripped of his captaincy and now serves under his mentor, Rear Admiral Christopher Pike (Bruce Greenwood), becomes embroiled in the hunt for Harrison led by Admiral Marcus (Peter Weller).
Predictably, Harrison doesn't intend to surrender, so Kirk gives chase flanked by Spock, communications officer Uhura (Zoe Saldana), navigator Pavel Chekov (Anton Yelchin), chief medical officer Dr Leonard McCoy (Karl Urban), chief engineer Montgomery Scott (Simon Pegg) and helmsman Sulu (John Cho).
Feisty science officer Dr Carol Marcus (Alice Eve), who strips down to her underwear in one scene for no discernible reason, is a new addition to the team.
The crew races against time to stop Harrison from obliterating everyone they hold dear but success hinges on the ultimate sacrifice.
Star Trek Into Darkness is bolted together with clinical precision by Abrams, who orchestrates each daredevil chase and skirmish with breathless abandon.
As a visual spectacle, the sequel rocks. Reviews of the film are positive, with critics saying it is a "rousing adventure" and "a riveting action-adventure in space".
