Fashion Extravaganza engulfs NIFT, Mumbai’s Knit Wear Design Jury Day 2013

NAVI MUMBAI: NIFT, Mumbai one of the premier institutes in Fashion education conducted their Knit Wear department Jury Day on 16th May 2013 at the institute’s Kharghar Campus. The event had 36 of the graduating batch students from Knit Wear department showcasing their collections in diverse themes.
The Jury Panel comprised of eminent dignitaries from the fashion fraternity like Designer Tasneem Merchant and Sameer Sen, Smita G. Dastidar Faculty of NIFT Delhi and Ms. Shilpi Sharma President & Director Globus. The collections were marked on the grounds of good designs which were a blend of creativity and function. This evaluation was also a part of the student’s final semester.
Some of the outstanding collections showcased were ‘God with Love’ by Sonali Sethi  which was about exploring and experimenting with unique and innovative computerized knitting techniques to create 3-dimentional and see through textures. Lovdeep Gulyani presented ‘The Pilgrim Progress’ which was influenced by Karin Dreijer Andersson, also known as fever ray lead vocalist of the Knife rooted in daydreams and unfettered imagination. Yashasvi Mathis had come up with a collection named ‘EPILEPTIC STACCATO’. It is a set of 5 looks that stand for ideas that got interrupted. Hacktivate implies the interrupting and improvising of an idea so that we come across something unexpected. The major focus lies on the play with the thicknesses of various fabrics. This also makes each look look jarring and absurd. Unexpected layering and novel cutting gives the technical elements a considered look. The idea is to bring together the elements such that it is a frenzy, almost epileptic.
Speaking on the occasion Dhanraj Survase, Course Cordinator of Knit Wear Designs excitedly states “It’s an electric mix of different genres of Fashion using the vast variety and properties of knits.”
The collections of the students will also be showcased on the Graduation Day Event 2013 scheduled on the 25th May 2013 at NCPA, Nariman Point.
