Dinesh Kamath's article on Deepika Padukone that was published in Newsband

Deepika Padukone is 24 years old. She had made her Bollywood debut with Om Shanti Om and later starred in films like Bachna Ae Haseeno and Love Aaj Kal. She has donned her first de-glam look as freedom fighter Kalpana Dutta in the period movie Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se.
The leggy actress has realized that everyone has an inbuilt strength to fight back any adverse situation. She believes that everyone has strength to cope with any adverse situation like break-up, financial loss etc. According to her, you have to identify that strength since nobody can help you. She says that your family might be there, your friends might be there, but if you don't make up your mind that you will not allow the situation to affect you, no one can help you come out of it. She believes that only you can identify the strength and come out of it. She agrees that it is difficult but she strongly believes that it is possible. She admitted that she was talking from experience.
Deepika and Ranbir Kapoor don't mind at all to work with each other. Deepika feels that Bachna Ae Haseeno didn't do justice to either of them, because there were two other girls and it was a big film and big star cast. She would love to do a film with Ranbir and is pretty sure that he too thinks the same way as well.
Deepika and Imran Khan form the freshest and newest jodi of Bollywood who have impressed the film industry. The on-screen couple have exchanged a steamy kiss and the two share sizzling chemistry. Deepika believes that her chemistry with Imran is 10 on 10. But she rates him seven on 10 as an actor and eight on 10 in terms of how he looks.
Just recently Deepika proved that she looks absolutely amazing. It is no wonder that many male fans wait for hours to get a glimpse of the beautiful actress. Deepika proved this while shooting for a small advertisement/video for 'Malik Law Chambers' who had sponsored the Break Ke Baad – UK trip.
Deepika was supposed to do Vishal Bharadwaj's film, but couldn't because of the dates problems. As far as Vishal's film is concerned, she was meant to do it but sometimes things don't work out. The dates got pushed and didn't fall into her schedule. Sometimes these things happen with any film star. Bharadwaj is miffed with Deepika for not doing his project and the young actress feels that while accepting an offer an actor has to consider other logistics apart from the script. Deepika, however, has a lot of respect for Vishal and she would love to work with him. Unfortunately this one didn't work out.
Deepika's future projects include Desi Boys, which is directorial debut of David Dhawan's son Rohit and Prakash Jha's Arakshan.
Only a couple of months back the buzz was that Katrina Kaif and Deepika are going to fight it out to star opposite Akshay Kumar in the film Joker. While Katrina believed that she will be the one landing the job in Joker, the next venture of Shirish Kunder and Farah, Deepika was under the impression that she will be the one. But now the news is final that it will be neither Katrina nor Deepika, but it will be Sonakshi Sinha who will be the leading lady in Joker. .
Deepika is very competitive when it comes to outdoor sports. She is not a sore loser. Deepika is an expert badminton player and it tends to overshadow her love for other sports. The young star has proven her competitive side with her rise in Bollywood, and the same principle applies to sports. She tries to play some sport or another. She loves tennis, swimming, basketball as well. She is a good sportswoman. Sports are a natural way for her to keep fit. She finds going to the gym and walking on a treadmill boring. She has not given in to the drudgery of gym. She does yoga, goes swimming or plays badminton when she can. It keeps her interested in her workout. That's the reason why she has an enviable body to show. Fitness does come first for Deepika but sports prove to be a stress-buster for the busy actress.
A few days back she got an unexpected off in Bangalore for Diwali. She just spent the day in the club with her friends and enjoyed it thoroughly. She played with her friends games like badminton, tennis and swimming. She is also very good at the 100-200 meter relay, basketball and throwball. It has been eight years since she gave up professional badminton, but she plays it when she can. She recently had an exhibition match with Aamir Khan in Mumbai. Two competitive, talented players pitched against each other on the court. Deepika really enjoyed playing with Aamir. She lost the match but she sportingly accepted defeat.
Thus Deepika is slowly but surely making her way to the top in Bollywood. So don't be surprised if you find her occupying the top position as heroine in Bollywood in a couple of years or so. Good Luck, Deepika!
