Dinesh Kamath's old article on Kangana Ranaut that was published in Newsband

Kangana Ranaut looked lovely in a cool beige dress at the Hello Awards which was held just recently. However, she must have dressed up in a hurry. There was a wardrobe malfunction, as her dress came undone near her left shoulder. This gave the photographers a field day shooting her innerwear. Such an incident had occurred to her few months back, as well.
Kangana is averse to journalists who confront her with embarrassing questions. She feels like transforming into a journalist at least for a single day to take revenge over all the journalists by posing questions of similar standard to them and watch their faces turn pale while answering her questions.
Kangana feels grateful to film industry since it has taught her a lot and has disciplined her more. From a reckless teenager to a well organized and disciplined person, she has changed a lot. Young people like her who have started the career at 17 cannot afford to be themselves. They have to change. Kangana won accolades with her first film with Mahesh Bhatt's Gangster – A Love Story in 2006 and went on to take up a challenging role of a mentally unstable girl in Woh Lamhe. Kangana prides herself with her endeavour so far. Kangana realizes that as an outsider it's difficult to win the support of people and media since they tend to accept those who come from a film background. But Kangana worked very hard and she achieved the success in a hard way.
Kangana wants to do a lot of different characters in the future. She wants people to come over to her with something challenging, something that is out of the box and not run-of-the-mill characters. She likes Bollywood and wants to be here for a long time.
Kangana, who is today considered as Bollywood's sizzling actress, shared the cover page of a magazine with a non-celebrity girl. She is in the list of bold and best dressed celebrities for magazines.
Kangana enjoys partying, but she gets tired of being under constant scrutiny, where one is judged every minute. And it gets worse when a celebrity faces a serious fashion disaster like wardrobe malfunction. Something like that happened to Kangana at Sanjay and Maanyata Dutt's party recently. She had worn a suit for the party. She got ready in a hurry. When she came back, suddenly her hands reached her back, and she found that there was a zip one side she had not noticed, and had forgotten to zip it up. By the time she realized, it was a bit too late. She regrets it.
Kangana might have played matured characters in her films but in real life, she is like any other normal girl, although she doesn't like to mingle a lot. In real life she is very, very chirpy, talkative for her family and friends but she doesn't mingle a lot.
Kangana wants to turn producer. She is not short of work, but she seems to be thinking about the long run. Kangana has roped in richie-rich businessman who is willing to put his money into movies. Kangana, with her understanding of the movie business and connections in the industry, will be the operational head. It is Ekta Kapoor who inspired her to go into production. The two ladies have become friends after working together in Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai. One day, Ekta suggested that Kangana take things into her own hands and get into production. Kangana was initially taken aback but later warmed up to the idea and thinks she can take up the challenge and be a good producer.
Kangana's success story is the stuff dreams are made of. She came to Bollywood with no filmi connections and she is today a talent to reckon with.
Kangana has also morphed into a svelte and confident woman who looks her best at all times. She did not take care of her looks earlier. When she first came into the industry, she didn't take care of herself. There was no diet, no exercise and she was really skinny. She felt really bad when people criticized her body. But now, she has begun working out and started following a strict diet, and the people are liking the changes in her body.
Kangana also dreams of becoming a film director. She already has a script in mind. She is quite happy with how her career is moving but she would like to direct a movie.
Most of Kangana's films have seen her in tragic roles, as a result she is often referred to as a modern day tragedy queen, a title once given to legendary actress Meena Kumari for playing grief-stricken characters.
In the film Knock Out, Kangana had played a scribe. She studied the body language of journalists reporting from crime scenes for her role. In this film, she actually got a chance to experience the urgency and intensity journalists experience every day. In this film, there was a shot where a car was supposed to fly up in the air and land on the ground. Instead of landing like it was supposed to, the car caught fire and came spinning at a very fast speed towards her. She managed to get out of its way in time, but she got a real first-hand experience of the dangers journalists faced on the job.
Lawman, the casual wear brand from Kewal Kiran Clothing , has signed Kangana as their brand ambassador. Kangana is now a youth icon and that brand is associated with youth. Hence she's the best choice for that brand. She is very stylish and she is hell bent on proving how cool and happening she is. So she is not only bagging projects left and right but is also trying to make a lasting impression on her filmmakers.
In the beginning, Kangana didn't know much about the whole fashion business. But along the way she learned how to dress and has today developed her own sense of style. Blessed as she is with a fashionably lean body, she could experiment with various ethnic and western designs. And today, she does manage to grab eyeballs when she walks on to the screen or walks into an event. Kangana loves the fact that Hindi cinema gives an actor a chance to follow his/her heart and get into costumes that may seem bizarre off screen. But these costumes sit well on screen adding to the larger-than-life images that film stars are often associated with.
Kangana, who made a conscious attempt at signing up for different kinds of roles, is a fast learner. Not only has she mastered the art of changing her look for every movie, she has also managed to select a range of films to act in to showcase her talent.
Kangana doesn't mind being tagged as a sexy glam doll. She has had her dose of intense characters, and now she is having fun seducing men on screen. She's a seductress!. She doesn't think there's anything wrong in playing sexy characters on screen.
Another interesting thing is that Kangana's co-star in five films is none other than Sanjay Dutt. She is her huge fan. Never in her wildest dreams had she imagined that she would ever act opposite him. She considers Sanjay as her hero and a rockstar in the truest sense. She thinks he has many layers to his personality. In that sense, she thinks she is similar to him.
As a sex symbol, Mallika Sherawat too finds Kangana a tough competitor. This proves the fact that Kangana has made tremendous progress in Bollywood and that too in a matter of short time. Keep it up, Kangana!
