New movie-release in Navi Mumbai
Snitch
Snitch is an American crime drama film directed by Ric Roman Waugh and starring Dwayne Johnson.
Helping yourself get out of a sticky situation at the cost of harming or losing a friend can be very tempting sometimes. This moral dilemma is one of the central themes in Snitch.
The movie begins with Jason Collins (Rafi Gavron) being asked by a friend via skype to hold some drugs at his house while he is flying to come visit him. Jason doesn’t necessarily accept to do this for his friend, but when the package arrives the next day, he signs for it and hurries to his room. When he opens the package, he finds a tracking device and immediately knows it means trouble when he hears pounding on the door. It’s the police.
After a quick chase, Jason is arrested on charges of drug distribution and finds himself facing a minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison. He is given an opportunity to reduce his sentence by setting someone up. Although his dad, John Mathews (Dwayne Johnson a.k.a The Rock) tries to convince Jason to snitch, Jason doesn’t waver and goes to prison.
The underlying conflict of the movie is a strained relationship between father and son, all thanks to his dad’s divorce, remarriage, luxurious new life, successful construction business and a new family. Knowing that his relationship with his son isn’t strong, John decides to do whatever he can to help catch a drug dealer so his son’s sentence is reduced.
After his first attempt to break into the drug dealing world ends in near death, John takes a look at his employee records. He is searching for someone to introduce him to a dealer, and as he looks through employee files he finds one worker, Daniel James, with the same conviction as his son. John pays Daniel to go out on a limb and take the risk of life in prison to introduce him to the world of drug dealing. He proves to the U.S. Attorney that he is able to go undercover, and they give him permission and a target to catch.
John keeps his promise to U.S. Attorney Joanne Keeghan (Susan Sarandon), but it wasn’t good enough. Keeghan goes back on her word and makes John go even further into the industry in order to catch the leader of a drug cartel.
The movie ends with Jason being released from prison. John and his family go into the witness protection program. Daniel refuses to go into the program, saying he and his family will go into hiding on their own. As Daniel has lost his job, John leaves Daniel the large reward check that John was supposed to receive for the capture of Juan Carlos. The film concludes by citing statistics which show that certain first-time non-violent drug offenders receive longer prison sentences on average than those convicted of rape or manslaughter.
Many critics praised Dwayne Johnson's performance in the lead role.
