By Dinesh Kamath
NAVI MUMBAI: A murder attempt was made on a Navi Mumbai businessman on March 15. He was stabbed with the knife in a car and then abandoned at an isolated spot in Versova by four men. They were under the impression that he was dead and hence they left him there. The name of the victim is Manoj Jain (42). He was found unconscious behind New MHADA Colony with his throat slit. He was rushed to a private hospital in Andheri (West) where he was admitted in the intensive care unit.
The police were trying to know the motive behind the attack. They had arrested one Shamshu Shaikh from Andheri. The police suspected that the reason for murder attempt could be that the victim and the suspect loved the same woman.
The police were in search of the woman in question. Shaikh had denied that he was among the four who attacked Jain. But it seems that he knew about plan to attack Jain. The police were trying to find out as to who these four attackers were.
Jain is a distributor of foreign fashion magazines and on March 15 he had gone to meet the woman in Lokhandwala after she called him. At that time four men bundled him into the back seat of a black Santro, and drove off. They slit his throat and threw him out of the car at a lonely spot in Versova. The left the car abandoned at the same place and fled from the spot believing that Jain was dead.
Jain was spotted lying unconscious by a man who alerted the police and Jain was rushed to the hospital.
The police traced the owner of the car who claimed to have had given the car to his friend who in turn gave it to Shaikh. This led to Shaikh’s arrest. The police are trying to trace the four attackers.
