Ahluwalia promises to discuss NMIA project with higher ups
By Dinesh Kamath
NAVI MUMBAI: Planning Commission deputy chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia on Thursday assured the state he would take up issues of pending clearances in major projects with the ministries and departments concerned, including the Navi Mumbai international airport (NMIA) project, for which a meeting would be set up with the forest ministry to clear hurdles in the development of 25-km green land.
On Thursday, the National Wildlife Board has given its nod for the project. The clearance was vital as the Karnala Bird Sanctuary is close to the proposed airport periphery.
During Thursday's meeting, the state made a presentation on several private-public projects. This included even the Navi Mumbai Airport project. It was then that Ahluwalia made the assurance.
