Anil Behrani is innocent, declares Crime Branch
By Dinesh Kamath
NAVI MUMBAI: API Anil Behrani was the key suspect arrested by Crime Branch in connection with Sandhya Singh murder case.
Narco tests on Behrani have proved that he is innocent. All that he was trying to hide was the fact that he had gone on drive with Sandhya Singh two weeks before she went missing. This made all the suspicions fall on him.
The Crime Branch had made Anil Behrani undergo narco-analysis tests. It was clear that he was trying to hide something and hence the policemen who were investigating into this case grew more suspicious. Ultimately it was found that Behrani was hiding the fact that he had gone on a late-night drive with Sandhya Singh around two weeks before she disappeared.
Sandhya Singh was the resident of Nerul and the sister of former actresses Sulakshana and Vijayata Pandit. She had gone missing on 31 December 2012 when she had gone to the bank to deposit jewellery. A British bird watcher happened to locate her remains in the marshes off Palm Beach Road on January 28, and he immediately informed the police about it.
During the investigation Behrani was named a suspect by the Crime Branch since he was one of the persons who had met Sandhya a few days before she went missing. He was interested in taking up an apartment, which belonged to Sandhya, on rent.
Behrani was put through narcoanalysis tests in late April and now the Crime Branch has come to the conclusion that Behrani is innocent. He had met Sandhya when she filed a complaint of jewellery theft in her house.
The next time he met her was when he came to know that she owned an apartment in Navi Mumbai, and asked whether she would rent it out to him. On November 29 last year, Behrani had met Sandhya to check the apartment, following which they went for dinner to Four Points Hotel in Vashi along with two of Behrani's friends. After that the two drove to a hotel in Turbhe since Sandhya wanted to discuss something personal with Behrani, from where he dropped her home. Sandhya went missing two weeks after that meeting.
The police suspected Behrani because they found that CCTV camera footage showed him driving Sandhya to Turbhe when he was supposed to be in the control room on night duty at that time.

It was just that all the time during the interrogation Behrani was too embarrassed to admit he had gone on a drive with Sandhya Singh and thus he was inviting more suspicion. But at last he did admit after which he was declared as innocent.
